Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what data the Camera Bridge app for Mac (the “App”) and this website handle. Camera Bridge is made by Corey Silvia (“we”, “us”). The short version: your video, your camera passwords and your home stay on your devices. We do not require an account and we do not run a cloud video service.
1. Data that stays on your Mac
- Video and audio. Camera streams are received and processed on your Mac on your local network. The App never sends video, audio, snapshots or images to us.
- Camera credentials. User names and passwords for your cameras are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. They are never sent to us.
- Camera details and settings. Camera names, addresses, serial numbers, models and configuration are stored locally in the App's container.
- Apple Home. When you add a camera to Apple Home, the App acts as a HomeKit accessory. Video you choose to record with HomeKit Secure Video is analyzed on your home hub and stored in iCloud under Apple's privacy policy, end-to-end encrypted. We have no access to it.
2. Data the App downloads
The App periodically fetches public configuration from this website: a list of known camera models and the setup method that works best for them (“camera profiles”), and app notices. These requests contain no information about you or your cameras. Like any web request they reach our hosting provider (Vercel), which may process your IP address transiently to deliver the response; we do not use those logs to identify you and do not combine them with anything else. We also keep a count of how many requests each of these endpoints receives per day (a single number per endpoint and day, nothing about who sent them).
3. Optional anonymous camera setup reports
The App can send an anonymous report about how camera setup went, so we can add support for more camera models. This is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time in the App's settings. A report contains only:
- report format version, App version and macOS version;
- camera vendor, and if known the model and firmware version strings;
- for each readiness check: its identifier and whether it was ok, a warning or a problem;
- for each automatic fix attempted: the fix, the method used, whether it succeeded, and a short technical reason (e.g. an error code);
- the identifiers of checks that remain unresolved.
A report never contains camera names, user names, passwords, serial numbers, MAC or IP addresses, URLs, Wi-Fi details, images, video, audio, your name, email or any account identifier. Our server additionally strips anything that looks like an IP address, URL, host name or email address from the technical reason text, and rejects reports containing unexpected fields.
Our server does not record or store the IP address a report is sent from. Each report is stored as a separate record with a random identifier and the date received, in storage provided by Vercel (Vercel Blob). Because reports are not linked to you, we cannot find or delete “your” reports on request; they contain no personal data. We keep reports for up to 24 months and then delete them.
4. Purchases
The App is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple processes all payments and gives us only aggregated, non-identifying sales information. See Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.
5. Crash and usage data
The App contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. If you choose to share crash reports and app analytics with developers in macOS settings, Apple may provide us anonymized crash data under Apple's terms.
6. This website and its analytics
This website sets no cookies and stores no identifiers in your browser. (See section 7 for cookies set by stores when you click a shop link.) To learn which pages are useful and what is broken, we run our own simple analytics on our own server. It is first-party only: no analytics company, advertising network or other third party receives this data, and we never sell or share it. Here is exactly what it does.
What it records
- Visits: the page path (never the query string, except
utm_campaign tags and a short allowlist such asref), the page title, the website you came from (the domain only), your screen and window size, language and time zone, and a random session ID that exists only in your browser tab (session storage) and disappears when you close the tab. - Where and what: your country, region and city as estimated by our host (Vercel) from your connection, and your device type, browser and operating system, read from your browser's user-agent string on our server. The user-agent string itself is not kept.
- How you use a page: how long the page was visible, how far you scrolled, and clicks on links and buttons: which element (a CSS selector such as
nav > a.btn), its label up to 40 characters and its link address without any query string, and roughly where on the page. Repeated rapid clicks (“rage clicks”) and clicks where nothing happens (“dead clicks”) are noted. Clicks on outbound links are recorded, including Amazon product links (the product ID, or ASIN) and the App Store link. - Shop cart events: when a product is added to or removed from your cart, when you reach the review step, and when you continue to Amazon. Your cart itself stays in your browser, as described in section 7.
- Contact form: only the fact that a form was submitted, never what you typed. We never record form fields, keystrokes, passwords or the text of anything you enter.
- Technical health: JavaScript error messages (shortened), page-speed measurements (loading, layout stability and responsiveness timings) and visits to pages that don't exist (404).
What it does not do
- Cookieless, with a daily rotating hash. To count visitors we compute a one-way hash of a secret random salt, your IP address, your user-agent and our site name. The salt is replaced every day at midnight UTC and old salts are deleted, so the hash is different every day, cannot be linked from one day to the next, and cannot be turned back into an IP address. A visitor who returns on another day is counted as a new visitor.
- No IP addresses are stored. Your IP address is used only in memory for that hash and for the location lookup by our host, and is then discarded. It is never written to our database or logs by this analytics.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are honored. If your browser sends either signal, the analytics script does not run and our server ignores any request that carries it. Automated traffic (bots and crawlers) is not counted.
- We do not build profiles, follow you to other websites or combine this data with anything else.
How long we keep it
Individual events are kept for 90 days and then deleted. Before deletion they are summarized into daily totals (page views, visitors, countries, devices, popular pages, click counts per area of a page and similar), which contain no individual visits and are kept for as long as they are useful. We use this information only to run and improve this website and the App. Our host, Vercel, also processes standard request data (such as your IP address and user agent) to deliver pages and protect against abuse, under its own privacy policy. If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and delete correspondence when no longer needed.
7. Affiliate links and disclosure
Our Shop page links to cameras and accessories on Amazon and, for some products, on the maker's own store. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. We may earn a commission from links on this page at no extra cost to you.
- The links are ordinary links that carry our affiliate ID (for Amazon, a
tag=orAssociateTag=parameter). Clicking one doesn't send us anything about you. - When you add products to the cart in our Shop, the products and quantities are saved only in your own browser (local storage) so your cart is still there when you come back. Your cart is never sent to us. When you choose Continue to Amazon at checkout, the products and quantities go to Amazon in the add-to-cart link you open. Remove items or choose Clear cart to delete it, or clear this site's data in your browser.
- When you click through, Amazon (or the store or affiliate network, such as Awin or Impact) may set cookies in your browser so the referral is credited to us. Those cookies are set by them, on their sites, under their privacy policies. See Amazon's Privacy Notice.
- We only receive aggregated reports of clicks and qualifying purchases, not who bought what.
- We pick products based on how well they work with Camera Bridge, and we label which ones we have tested ourselves. A commission never changes the price you pay.
8. Tracking and selling
We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell or share personal information for advertising. The analytics described in section 6 is first-party and anonymous, and is never sold or shared.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law) you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to processing. Because we do not hold personal data from the App, most requests can be satisfied by deleting the App and its data on your Mac. For anything else, contact us below. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
11. Changes
We will update the “Last updated” date when this policy changes, and will describe material changes in the App or on this page.
