Why Camera Bridge

Apple Home's camera list is short. The camera world isn't.

HomeKit Secure Video is excellent — private, end-to-end encrypted, with people, animal, vehicle and package detection. But it only works with cameras built for it. We counted every one we could find. Camera Bridge lets the cameras you already own, or would rather buy, use it too.

30

cameras and doorbells with native HomeKit Secure Video

25 carry the badge on Apple's list[1], plus 5 newer models confirmed by their makers or reviews. Only 17 are clearly still sold.

1

native HKSV camera with Power over Ethernet

2 native doorbells also take PoE[1]. Every other native camera needs a power adapter, USB or a battery.

0

outdoor dual-lens, panoramic or optical-zoom PTZ cameras

The only dual-lens native camera is indoor-only[1].

35,000+

ONVIF-conformant products

Cameras, NVRs and more[2]. Camera Bridge works with ONVIF and RTSP cameras.

Camera types you can now use

Categories with few or no native HomeKit Secure Video options. Examples are illustrative; check a model offers RTSP or ONVIF before you buy.

PoE bullets, turrets and domes

One cable for power and video. The backbone of most NVR systems, with 5MP models from roughly $40.

Dual-lens panoramic

180° stitched views from one camera, in resolutions from 8MP up to 16MP.

PTZ with optical zoom

Pan, tilt and real optical zoom outdoors, up to 4K with 5× optical zoom.

See our picks

4K / 8MP and up

High-resolution sensors for a sharper source and full-resolution recording on your NVR.

Varifocal lenses

Motorized zoom lenses you set once to frame a driveway or gate exactly. Common on NVR-class PoE cameras.

NVR-connected cameras

Cameras already wired to an NVR keep recording 24/7 there; Camera Bridge adds them to Apple Home using their RTSP streams.

Solar and LTE cameras

Only if they expose an RTSP stream — many battery and cellular cameras don't, so check your model first.

Doorbells

Video doorbells that offer RTSP and ONVIF events, including PoE models, appear as real HomeKit doorbells.

How we counted

25 come from Apple's accessory list, which Apple says may not be exhaustive[1]; 5 are newer models whose makers or reviewers confirm HKSV. Resolution is the camera's own sensor, not what HKSV records.

Not counted: cameras that work with Apple Home but whose makers don't say they support HomeKit Secure Video, because we couldn't verify it.

The honest fine print

HKSV sets the recording quality

HomeKit Secure Video recorded at up to 1080p through iOS 26. iOS 27 (released Sept 14, 2026[4]) allows up to 4K for cameras that adopt Apple's updated spec[3],[5]. A 4K or 16MP camera still records at full resolution on its own NVR or SD card.

You need a home hub and iCloud+

HKSV needs a home hub (Apple TV or HomePod)[6] and an iCloud+ plan: 50 GB covers one camera, 200 GB up to five, 2 TB and above unlimited[3].

Camera Bridge needs a Mac that stays on

Camera Bridge runs on your Mac, so cameras are available in Apple Home while that Mac is on and awake. A Mac mini that stays plugged in works well. See Support.

Not affiliated with Apple

Camera Bridge is an independent app by Corey Silvia. HomeKit and Apple Home are trademarks of Apple Inc. Compatibility is described by standard, RTSP and ONVIF; see camera compatibility for what works today.

Prices and lists change

Prices are list or typical street prices at the dates shown and move often. Some older native cameras may still be sold somewhere; we only count one as sold when its maker lists it.

ONVIF counts more than cameras

The 35,000+ figure is all ONVIF-conformant products, including NVRs, encoders and access control — not just cameras[2].
